ABOUT THE PATTERN

This is a patchwork-pieced pattern. The blocks are made entirely of rotary-cut squares and rectangles, and everything is sewn together using conventional patchwork techniques. No templates or paper piecing!

The pattern includes a diagram and chart showing all of the pieces needed to make each block. You can use this as a reference while making the pattern projects, or as a guide for making individual blocks and scrappy projects.

Among my patterns, Pandas in Sweaters is rated Skill Level 3 (of 5). You can read more about skill levels here.

ABOUT THE FABRIC

You will need a piece of fabric 10-½" wide x 14" tall to make each panda's sweater. Two such pieces can be cut from a standard 18" x 21" fat quarter. My pandas' sweaters are made with my Kitchen Window Wovens for Robert Kaufman Fabrics.

To make blocks that look like mine, use a dark, but not quite black, Dark Solid Panda Fabric like Essex Yarn-Dyed Charcoal and a true black, like Kona Black, for the Black Solid Detail Fabric. This will allow the panda's eye to stand out against the "black" panda bodies.

If you want to make the panda bodies with a true black fabric, omit the Black Solid Detail Fabric and make the block s using on Dark and White Panda Solid Fabrics. Refer to Page 1 for more details on making these blocks.

ABOUT THE QUILTING

My sample was free-motion quilted by me, on my Janome 1600p, using a pattern of meandering boxes. For longarm quilting, any similarly-dense edge-to-edge design should look great!
