Errata

I make every effort to provide accurate patterns. Unfortunately, even with testing and editing, things can slip through. This page includes known corrections to my patterns.

If you’re having trouble with a pattern, and don’t see a relevant correction on this page, please consider these troubleshooting tips:

  • Many of my patterns include pieced units (often mouths and noses/muzzles) that need to be trimmed after sewing, or units that are made with strip piecing. Please read through all of the step-by-step instructions, to see if you might have missed something like this.
  • My patterns often include lots of small pieces, and it can be very easy to miscut something, or accidentally turn a piece the wrong way. If you’re having trouble, start by double-checking the size of your cut pieces and how they’re sewn together (i.e., do they look like the diagrams in the pattern?).

If you have a question or concern about a pattern, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Armadillos

On Page 16, Fig. 7 should show the GUG unit being shown to the KFR unit. In some patterns, piece U may be mislabeled as piece S.

Awesome Ocean

The first printing of the second edition of this pattern (Spring 2021) included the following errata:

  • The chart on Page 6 (Kelp Block) lists the sizes of pieces B and C incorrectly. Piece B should be 1-1/2” x 3-1/2”, and Piece C should be 1-1/2” x 15-1/2”. The piece sizes are referenced correctly in the cutting and piecing directions below the chart.
  • On Page 15 (Tony the Turtle) the cutting diagram in the lower-left corner is labeled “Colorful Fabric 2” but should be labeled “Colorful Fabric 3.” All colors are referenced correctly in the piece size chart, the rest of the cutting directions, and on Page 3.
  • The directions and chart on Pages 17 and 18 (Mr. Manatee) show 2 pieces R per block. You will actually need 4 pieces R for each block (8 total pieces R for a Small Quilt, or 32 total pieces R for a Large Quilt). There should be ample remaining background fabric to cut these pieces.

Casserole

In the directions for Making the Plus Units for the Large Quilt (Page 4): The third diagram from the top (the one with Fabric 4 in the center) is incorrectly labeled as being for Blocks B and D. It should be for Blocks B and F.

Cats In Space

You may notice that, within the pattern, the cats’ jet packs are depicted as being two different heights. The piece sizes in the instructions are for making the shorter jet packs, and are complete and correct for doing so. If you’d like to make the taller jet packs shown in my sample quilt, you can change the size of pieces GG, V, and HH, as follows:

  • Pieces GG = 3-3/4” x 4-3/4”
  • Pieces V = 1-1/4” x 2-1/4”
  • Pieces HH = 2-1/4” x 3”

If you’ve already cut your pieces, but want to make the jet packs taller, start by trimming your pieces GG to 3-3/4” x 4-3/4” each. There should be plenty of fabric remaining to re-cut pieces V and HH as noted above.

Dog Park

For the Medium Quilt Only: Pages 11-12 describe cutting 2 pieces A, 3-1/2” x 18” each. You will actually need one piece A, 3-1/2” x 18” for Unit 1, and 1 piece 3-1/2” x 18-1/2” for Unit 4. (In newer patterns, the 3-1/2” x 18-1/2” piece for Unit 4 is called Piece S.)

Dogs In Sweaters

The first printing of this pattern (Winter 2017) included the following errata:

  • In Make the Face, Step 9, the size of the Face Unit is incorrectly referenced as 4” wide x 7” tall. It should actually be 4” wide x 6-1/4” tall.
  • The diagram for Making the Large Quilt (the part where you sew the blocks and sashing/borders together) does not depict the Vertical Sashing between the blocks. It is described in the step-by-step directions, but not shown in the diagram. This page includes a more detailed diagram.

Fab Farm

In the first printing of this pattern (Fall 2022) there are two corrections for the Chicken Block:

  • On Page 27, the directions for cutting background fabric for the Large Quilt say to cut 4 pieces LL, 1-1/2” x -1/2”, each. This should be 1-1/2” x 1-1/2”. (The size of piece LL is correctly referenced in the chart on Page 25.)
  • Also on Page 27, the “size check in” for the Eye Unit in Step 2 should be 2-1/4” tall x 2-3/4” wide, not 1-3/4” tall x 2-3/4” wide.

Greenhouse

A limited number of second edition patterns from Fall 2023 including the following errata:

  • On Page 21, the chart that lists the pieces in the Flower Block shows the size of piece 4E as 2-1/2” x 3-1/2”. This should be 2-1/2” x 3”.
  • On Page 23, the chart that lists the pieces in the Cactus Block shows the size of piece 5D as 2-1/2” x 6-1/2”. This should be 1-1/2” x 6-1/2” (the same width as similar parts of the cacti in the block).

The cutting directions on Page 13 correctly reference the size of these pieces in all versions of the pattern.

Happy Halloween

The fabric chart on Page 2 shows Kona Orange as Fabric 12. In the original printing, the pattern back lists Kona Saffron instead. These are similar colors that may be difficult to differentiate, depending on the dye lot. Kona Orange, Saffron, or any similar mid-tone orange solid, would all be great choices for Fabric 12.

Little Llamas

In the original printing of this pattern, the Background Fabric cutting instructions for the Lap Quilt (Page 4) say to cut a strip of fabric 10-1/2” x WOF. This should say 10-3/4” x WOF. If you’re already cut the strip at 10-1/2”, don’t worry! You can still subcut pieces EE and DD from a 10½” x WOF strip.

The cutting instructions, and all piece sizes and quantities in this pattern are correct. The step-by-step instructions for making the blocks include important information about strip piecing the legs and trimming parts of the faces after sewing.

Lookout

In the first printing of this pattern (Fall 2022) the instructions for making the Rabbit Block (Page 13, Step 3) say that the Ear Unit should measure 6-1/2” tall x 6-1/2” wide. The Ear Unit should actually finish at 5-1/2” tall x 6-1/2” wide. This correction is limited to the “size check in” for the Ear Unit in Step 3. There are no corrections to any of the piece sizes or cutting instructions.

North Stars

The corrections on this document apply to the first printing of the first edition of this pattern (Spring 2018).

Pretty Birds

The first printing of the first edition of this pattern (Fall 2019) incorrectly lists the length of the following pieces on Page 2:

  • Horizontal Border pieces for the Large Quilt should be 2-1/2” x 69-1/2” each.
  • Horizontal Sashing pieces for the Large Quilt should be 1-1/2” x 65-1/2” each.

If your pieces are too short, you can add the necessary length by sewing on more of the longer strips that you sewed end-to-end at the beginning of the cutting process.

Robots

These corrections apply to the first printing of the pattern and pdf patterns downloaded before June 15, 2022.

  • On Page 4, the diagram for subcutting Fabric 1 says to cut a piece for the Model 4 block measuring 8-1/2” x 21”. You may notice that the diagram depicts a smaller, 8-1/2” x 11” rectangle. Either size will give you enough fabric for the Model 4 blocks, and will leave enough fabric for the other blocks.
  • On Page 17, Fig 2. the VR units should be mirror-images of one another, with pieces R next to the head (like ears). Fig. 2 incorrectly shows the unit on the right as being identical to the one on the left (so the right “ear” isn’t touching the head). The diagram below shows the correct placement of the VR units.

Sleepy Sloth

In the first printing of the pattern, the Sashing strips are listed as being 4-1/2” wide. That is the correct width of the Border strips, but the Sashing strips should be 2-1/2” wide. The lengths of all of these strips are correct in all versions of the pattern.

Spectacular Savanna

For the Gazelle Block, the size of piece W should be 3-1/2” wide x 4-3/4” tall. The Fabric 3 cutting chart correctly depicts the size of this piece in relation to the others.

Sunshine

On Page 17, Step 9/Fig. 9 refers to sewing piece C. This should be piece E. (Piece C is smaller and was sewn in Step 8/Fig. 8.)

If you look at the full block diagram on Page 9, you can see the relationship between pieces C and E. There are no corrections to any of the piece sizes, or the way that pieces C and E are referenced elsewhere in the pattern.

Swan Island

A limited number of patterns distributed in Fall 2023 – Spring 2024 included the following errata:

  • On Page 8, the Background Fabric cutting instructions are missing instruction to cut 2 strips, 3” x WOF, and subcut 24 pieces EE, 3” x 3” each. (Yardage requirements for the pattern include these strips.)
  • On Pages 8 and 14, the size of pieces V should be 1-1/4” x 1-3/4” each.
  • On Page 18, the MSNT unit should measure 3” tall x 11-3/4” wide.
