QUILT SIZES

This pattern includes instructions for three quilts featuring 9-1/2" x 17" patchwork llama blocks.

BABY QUILT

The Baby Quilt measures 32" x 40" and includes two blocks.

LAP QUILT

The gallery images below show the 64" x 68" Lap Quilt, which includes 15 blocks.

LARGE QUILT

The Large Quilt measures 76" x 87" and includes 24 blocks.

ABOUT THE PATTERN

This is a patchwork-pieced pattern. The blocks are made entirely of rotary-cut squares and rectangles, and everything is sewn together using conventional patchwork techniques. No templates or paper piecing!

The pattern includes a diagram and chart showing all of the pieces needed to make each block. You can use this as a reference while making the pattern projects, or as a guide for making individual blocks and scrappy projects.

ABOUT THE FABRIC

Sets of two (for the Baby Quilt) or three (for the Lap or Large Quilts) llama blocks are made with one fat quarter for the llama bodies and one slightly lighter or darker fat eighth for the legs and details. The Lap Quilt shown in the gallery photos below was made with the following combinations of Robert Kaufman fabrics (Fat Quarter for Llama Bodies/Fat Eighths for Legs and Details):

Essex Leather / Yarn-Dyed Ochre
Essex Yarn-Dyed Homespun Roasted Pecan / Essex Yarn-Dyed Homespun Taupe
Essex Yarn-Dyed Graphite / Essex Yarn-Dyed Steel
Essex Yarn-Dyed Cinnamon / Essex Yarn-Dyed Nutmeg

The top and bottom borders, and the llamas' blankets and legwarmers can be made from scraps, or packages of precut charm (5" x 5") squares.

ABOUT THE QUILTING

My sample was free-motion quilted by me, on my Janome 1600p, using a pattern of meandering squares. For longarm quilting, any similarly-dense edge-to-edge design should look great!
