Leafy

These tropical leaves can survive in any climate! Leafy is perfect for using all kinds of fabrics, and can be made using a variety of precut sizes.

QUILT AND PILLOW SIZES

Each Full Leafy Block measures 8" wide x 20" tall. Upper and Lower Leaf Blocks measure 8" wide x 10" tall.

PILLOW

The 24" x 24" pillow is made with Full Blocks.

SMALL QUILT

The 56" x 60" Small Quilt is made with 18 Full Blocks, 3 Upper Leaf Blocks, and 3 Lower Leaf Blocks.

LARGE QUILT

The 72" x 80" Small Quilt is made with 32 Full Blocks, 4 Upper Leaf Blocks, and 4 Lower Leaf Blocks.

ABOUT THE PATTERN

This is a patchwork pattern. All fabric is rotary cut and sewn together using conventional patchwork piecing.

This pattern also includes a diagram and chart showing all of the pieces needed to make each block. You can use this as a reference while making the pattern projects, or as a guide for making individual blocks and scrappy projects.

Leafy blocks include skinny fabric strips that are shortcut pieced (cut a little large and then trimmed down). The pattern will walk you through the process with both diagrams and written instructions for each step.

ABOUT THE FABRIC

Each Leafy Block is made with Background Fabric, Stem Fabric, and Leaf Fabric.

BACKGROUND FABRIC

You will need one 9" x 21" fat eighth for each block. (Two fat eighths can be cut from one standard fat quarter.)

STEM FABRIC

The Stem Fabrics are made from 1" x WOF strips. You can cut these from precut 2-½" strips, yardage, or scraps. For best results, use solid fabrics that contrast with the Leaf Fabrics.

LEAF FABRICS FROM FAT QUARTERS & FAT EIGHTHS

Each block in this style is made with one fat eighth. (You can cut fat eighths for two blocks from a fat quarter.) In these blocks, all of the Leaf Fabrics are cut from the same fabric.

LEAF FABRICS FROM 10" x 10" SQUARES

Each block in this style is made with three precut squares, 10" x 10" each. (You can also cut these pieces from scraps.) In these blocks, the Leaf Fabrics are made from three different fabrics for a scrappy look.

ABOUT THE QUILTING

My samples were free-motion quilted by me, on my Janome 1600p, using a pattern of meandering squares. For longarm quilting, any similar edge-to-edge design should look great!
