Frances Firefly

Just a few of these large-scale blocks will make a bold and graphic impact on your next quilt!

QUILT SIZES

Frances Firefly quilts are made with 12" x 30" blocks. These blocks are twice as big as the ones in my Fancy Forest quilt.

SMALL QUILT

The 40" x 48" Small Quilt is made with three blocks.

LARGE QUILT

The 60" x 70" Large Quilt is made with five blocks.

ABOUT THE PATTERN

This is a patchwork pattern. All fabric is rotary cut and sewn together using conventional patchwork piecing.

This pattern includes a diagram and chart showing all of the pieces needed to make each block. You can use this as a reference while making the pattern projects, or as a guide for making individual blocks and scrappy projects.

Frances Firefly blocks include lots of diagonal seams, but are made with larger pieces than many of my other patterns. The pattern will walk you through the process with both diagrams and written instructions for each step.

Among my patterns, Frances Firefly is rated Skill Level 2 (of 5). You can read more about skill levels here.

ABOUT THE FABRIC

Each firefly block is made with 5 precut fabric strips, 2-1/2" x WOF, such as Moda Jelly Rolls or Robert Kaufman Roll-Ups. You will use different amounts of each strip and, in some cases, will have leftover fabric.

My sample was made with my now-out-of-print Paintbox collection from Spring 2016.

    ABOUT THE QUILTING

My sample quilt was free-motion quilted by me, on my Janome 1600p, using a pattern of meandering points. For longarm quilting, any similarly-dense edge-to-edge design should look great!
