ABOUT THE PATTERN

This is a patchwork pattern. All fabric is rotary cut and sewn together using conventional patchwork piecing.

This pattern also includes a diagram and chart showing all of the pieces needed to make each block. You can use this as a reference while making the pattern projects, or as a guide for making individual blocks and scrappy projects.

Among my patterns, Dwight the Deer is rated Skill Level 3 (of 5). You can read more about skill levels here.

ABOUT THE FABRIC

LARGE QUILT & PILLOW

My sample Large Quilt and Pillow were made using Robert Kaufman flannels including Solid, Shetland, and Mammoth Flannels. A fabric guide for the Large Quilt can be downloaded below.

Some of the Mammoth and Shetland fabrics that I used in these samples are no longer in production, but both lines still exist and include lots of colors and patterns that would look great in a Dwight the Deer quilt.

SMALL QUILT

My Small Quilt sample was made using Robert Kaufman fabrics including Essex Yarn-Dyed Linen, Chambray Union, Kona Solids, and prints from my 2015 Pacific collection. Many of these fabrics are now unavailable, but you can make something similar using the following fabrics (Block Background / Antlers / Deer Face):

  • Essex Yarn-Dyed Nautical / Kona Baby Blue / Dusty Blue
  • Esse Yarn-Dyed Denim / Kona Wasabi / Kona Pickle
  • Essex Yarn-Dyed Indigo / Kona Celestial / Kona Astral
  • Essex Yarn-Dyed Aqua / Kona Cypress / Kona Bluegrass

ABOUT THE QUILTING

My sample quilts were both free-motion quilted by me, on my Janome 1600p, in a woodgrain design. For longarm quilting, any similar edge-to-edge design should look great!

OPTIONAL GLASSES APPLIQUE

This pattern includes a full-size glasses pattern that you can use to make a raw-edge appliqué for one or more of your blocks.
