Dogs in Sweaters

These adorable dogs and their stylish sweaters can be made with an optional glasses appliqué.

QUILT AND PILLOW SIZES

Dogs in Sweaters blocks measure 12" x 19" each.

PILLOW

The 16" x 26" Pillow is made with one block.

SMALL QUILT

The 45" x 60" Small Quilt is made with four blocks.

LARGE QUILT

The 73" x 76" Large Quilt is made with 15 blocks.

ABOUT THE PATTERN

This is a patchwork pattern. All fabric is rotary cut and sewn together using conventional patchwork piecing.

This pattern also includes a diagram and chart showing all of the pieces needed to make each block. You can use this as a reference while making the pattern projects, or as a guide for making individual blocks and scrappy projects.

ABOUT THE FABRIC

Each dog sweater can be made from one 10" x 10" piece of Sweater Fabric and one 4" x 6" piece of Sweater Trim Fabric. You can also cut multiple sweaters from fat quarters. The sweaters in my samples are made from Robert Kaufman's Mammoth and Shetland Flannels.

The dogs are made from a Body Fabric, such as Essex Yarn-Dyed Nutmeg, a coordinating Ear and Tail Fabric, such as Essex Yarn-Dyed Cinnamon, and a darker Eye and Nose fabric, such as Kona Espresso. (I also used Kona Espresso to make the glasses appliqués.)

The Background Fabric in my samples is Robert Kaufman's Essex Yarn-Dyed Homespun in Charcoal. This fabric may have limited availability today. Essex Yarn-Dyed Steel is a good substitute.

ABOUT THE QUILTING

My sample quilts were both free-motion quilted by me, on my Janome 1600p, using a pattern of meandering squares. For longarm quilting, any similar edge-to-edge design should look great!

OPTIONAL GLASSES APPLIQUE

This pattern includes a full-size glasses pattern that you can use to make a raw-edge appliqué for one or more of your blocks.
