Aviatrix Medallion
Use 25 fat quarters or your favorite fabric scraps to create this 80" x 80" modern medallion quilt featuring patchwork birds and butterflies.
ABOUT THE PATTERN
This is a patchwork pattern. Most fabric is rotary cut, and all pieces are sewn together using conventional patchwork piecing. Some of the shapes will be cut using templates made with the included, full-size patterns.
Making an Aviatrix Medallion quilt involves a lot of small pieces. The pattern will walk you through the process of sewing them with both diagrams and written instructions for each step, using strip piecing to help with some of the trickier parts.
Among my patterns, Aviatrix Medallion is rated Skill Level 4 (of 5). You can read more about skill levels here.
ABOUT THE FABRIC
August is made with 25 Kona Solids fat quarters, such as:
- Violet Group: Thistle, Pansy, Violet, Cerise, Valentine
- Orange Group: Peach, Mango, Carrot, Flame, Tomato
- Green Group: Corn Yellow, Wasabi, Peapod, Bluegrass, Emerald
- Blue Group: Aqua, Pool, Breakers, Cyan, Celestial
- Gray Group: Shadow, Pewter, Graphite, Shale, Seafoam
You will also need a light Block Background Fabric, such as Kona Snow, and a Background Fabric, such as Essex Yarn-Dyed Steel.
ABOUT THE QUILTING
My sample was free-motion quilted by me, on my Janome 1600p, using a pattern of meandering squares. For longarm quilting, any similar edge-to-edge design should look great!
