August
This 83" x 83" folk art-inspired quilt is
somewhere between a sampler and a medallion.
ABOUT THE PATTERN
This is a patchwork pattern. All fabric is rotary cut and sewn together using conventional patchwork piecing.
Making an August quilt involves a lot of small pieces. The pattern will walk you through the process of sewing them with both diagrams and written instructions for each step, using strip piecing to help with some of the trickier parts.
Among my patterns, August is rated Skill Level 4 (of 5). You can read more about skill levels here.
ABOUT THE FABRIC
August is made with 20 Kona Solids fat quarters, such as:
- Neutral Group: Oyster, Lingerie, OD Green, Pepper
- Colorful Grop A: Grellow, Saffron, Terracotta, Flame
- Colorful Group B: Bright Idea, Acid Lime, Nectarine, Cantaloupe
- Colorful Group C: Meringue, Wasabi, Pickle, Avocado
- Colorful Group D: Desert Green, Seafoam, Sage, Ultra Marin
You will also need a light Block Background Fabric (such as Kona Snow), a Dark Block Detail Fabric (such as Essex Yarn-Dyed Espresso), and Sashing and Borders Fabric (such as Essex Yarn-Dyed Olive).
ABOUT THE QUILTING
My sample was free-motion quilted by me, on my Janome 1600p, using a pattern of meandering squares. For longarm quilting, any similar edge-to-edge design should look great!
