It's a great time of year for some holiday sewing! I also thought it was a great time to give my Penguin Party penguins some long-sleeved sweaters. (It's getting chilly, after all.)
The blocks in my Penguin Party pattern are made with print fabric bodies that look kind of like sweater vests.
For this quilt, I adjusted the blocks a bit to give the sweaters sleeves, and to show a little of the bottom of the penguins' bodies.
Most of my sweaters are made with Diamond Textiles Manchester wovens (the ones with the little plus signs). I also used a couple of Alexia Marcelle Abegg's Warp & Weft Wovens, and three different colors of a Melody Miller reindeer print from one of the Ruby Star Society holiday collections from a couple of years ago.
The penguins are made with Kona Espresso, Snow, and Grellow. The background is my Starlight print in Ice Frappe (the same color as Kona Ice Frappe). I used my Kitchen Window Wovens gingham in Flame for the quilt back.
The beautiful quilting was done by Emily Hoppe of So Sunny Quilts, using Julie Hirt's Purl. (I'm sure I'll be using this panto again, as it's a great choice for quilts with animals wearing sweaters!)
You can use this one-page pattern supplement with my Penguin Party pattern to make your own penguins wearing sweaters quilt!
