I'm not sure whether any other quilt blocks have been inspired by the Commodore's video for Lady (You Bring Me Up), but this one definitely was. The video features a ridiculously stagey soccer game with loads and loads of striped clothing, particularly tube socks.
These are the blocks I made back when I originally wrote the pattern for The Modern Quilt Guild's website. Each section of each block is made of equal parts colorful and neutral background fabric (in both cases white). I wrote the pattern specifically for using scraps, and you can really use some tiny ones here! Each finished block is 24" x 24".
This quilt is made using 9 Knee Socks blocks. If you'll look closely, you'll see that these blocks don't include equal parts colorful and neutral background fabric. Half of each section of each block is made with one of Robert Kaufman's Chambray Union fabrics. The other half of each section is mostly Kona White, but I've replaced one white piece in each section with a single piece of bright, contrasting Kona (Tomato, Citrus, Cyan, or Indigo).
I continued the idea of using up scraps onto the back, where I used my leftover Chambray Union and Kona to improvise a large, stylized log cabin block.
