It’s hard to get a good photo at this time of year, but I couldn’t be more delighted with how this Norm & Nanette quilt is turning out. Loving the combination of Liberty and Mammoth Flannel! #normandnanette #libertylawn #mammothflannel
Nine Gnomes Named Norm. #normandnanettequilt #mammothflannel #libertylawn
Have you seen the new @konacotton 2019 Color of the Year? Meet, Splash! It’s a really lovely blue-green color, which I used in this quilt called Breeze (along with Jungle, Snow, and Acid Lime). A free pattern for the project will be on the @robertkaufman site soon. #konasolids
Daisies and Lattice. More blocks from my August quilt. #ehaugustquilt #konasolids
My new August quilt is a little bit medallion and a little bit sampler. These are the Mosaic blocks that will sit in the center and in each of the four corners. They take some time to make, but I think the look is worth the work! The pattern has you strip piecing to save time and promote accuracy. August pattern coming in January 2019! #ehaugustquilt #konasolids
Our mushroom props are holding a secret! We’ve stuffed each one with Berry Season and/or Kitchen Window Wovens scraps. If you’d like to give one a home, please come see us in Booth 1100. We’ll be giving them away until they’re gone! 🍄🍄🍄#quiltmarket
Here’s a brief craft/construction recap for the booth: - Floor and shelf liners made from IKEA Hampen rugs. - Walls covered in wood grain Con-Tact paper. - Strawberries are similar to the ones in in @heatherbailey Fresh Picked pincushion pattern. - Mini bolts made by cutting the middle out of standard bolts and taping the ends back together. - Bees are felt and fabric fused to card stock. - Mushrooms “caps” are styrofoam domes painted with matte acrylic paint. The inside of each dome has been fitted with a cardboard cake round so it can sit on top of the “stem.” Stems are canning jars wearing sleeves made from fabric fused to wool/rayon felt. The caps are attached to the stems with carpet tape.

Thank you @quiltmarket for giving us the Best Single Booth award! 🎊🎉🎊#quiltmarket #berryseasonfabric #normandnanette (The beautiful quilting you see on the Norm & Nanette quilt is by @Gina Pina!)
You know you’ve picked the right career when everyone agrees to wear quilted vests at a work event! Today at quilt market, the @robertkaufman team was #sewinvestedeveryday. I made these vests using the @purlsoho quilted vest pattern with some modification. The gnome blocks are from my Norm & Nanette pattern. Free berry block pattern coming soon. All made with my Berry Season fabric. (Photo reposted from @robertkaufman.)
Thank you to everyone who visited us at Quilt Market today! We’ll be in booth 1100 with @robertkaufman through Monday. Come see my new Berry Season and Kitchen Window Wovens fabrics and new patterns! It’s a vest factory over here! #sewinvestedeveryday #normandnanette #quiltmarketprep #berryseasonfabric #purlsohoquiltedvest

Octagonal Orb Blocks

May 05, 2015 in Blocks, Quilts

I wrote this block pattern for The Modern Quilt Guild's site, several years ago and wanted to bring the pattern back here, along with photos of this beautiful quilt that I made using it. The original inspiration for this block was a pillow designed by Heather Bostic. I just fixed the math so that it would work as a quilt block.

Octagonal orb blocks use plenty of scraps, and they're perfect for color blocking groups of monochromatic scraps, as I did in this quilt. The background is Essex yarn-dyed linen blend in Steel.
